EVA is a type A social cooperative founded in 1999 in Campania, in Caserta, that promotes women’s rights and freedoms through prevention and response to male violence, empowerment pathways and the valorisation of women’s agency. It currently manages 5 anti-violence centres and 3 safe houses supporting women who have survived violence, victims of trafficking, refugees and asylum seekers.
To support the economic independence of these women, EVA has established two employment workshops in properties confiscated from organised crime, Le Ghiottonerie di Casa Lorena and EVAlab, and has taken over the management of the cafeterias at the Mercadante and San Ferdinando Theatres in Naples, giving rise to La Buvette di EVA.
The cooperative also designs and delivers services for the promotion of the wellbeing of children and adolescents, with particular attention to the prevention and response to abuse and mistreatment in childhood, through nurseries and socio-educational centres. EVA also promotes cultural, educational and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at dismantling sexist prejudices and stereotypes that fuel and justify male violence against women.
The support from Restart Italia is directed at backing EVA’s development plan for the creation of «I Giardini della Camelia», a project involving the repurposing and management of a bistro within the Royal Palace of Caserta.
