Viso A Viso was founded in 2020 in Ostana (Cuneo) during the COVID-19 pandemic as a potential response to the needs of the region, adopting the “cooperativa di comunità” (community cooperative) as a method and model for social innovation. Viso A Viso represents a collective project that enthusiastically embraces the challenge of contemporary mountain living and habitability. It experiments with a culture-based regeneration model, paying particular attention to young people.
With this vision, Viso A Viso develops projects, activities, and services for the residents and visitors of Ostana and the Po Valley, fostering a new local economy focused on cultural and community welfare, hospitality, and sustainable, inclusive tourism.
Viso A Viso is headquartered at Lou Pourtoun—the Civic and Cultural Center of Ostana and the Po Valley—a hub for cultural innovation and social transformation. Within Lou Pourtoun, there are: the Alpine Merenderia, a coworking space, an auditorium, educational and research spaces, Alpstream—the Center for the Study of Alpine Rivers, and BAO—the Open Library of Ostana.
The cooperative also manages a variety of other activities, such as: the Piccolo Teatro, a permanent theater workshop inspired by the Poor Theater of Monticchiello, the School of “O”, for children aged 1–3, as well as organizing the Community Cooperatives Festival.
