CoAbitare is a social enterprise founded in Turin in 2011 operating in the field of social housing. It focuses on providing solutions to emerging housing and tourism needs while promoting a new housing culture based on social relationships and the inclusion of disadvantaged individuals facing housing insecurity.
CoAbitare’s social housing projects are structured around two main business lines:
– Residential housing based on a social mix approach where both socially vulnerable groups and regular citizens live together
– Experiential tourism initiatives.
Over the years, CoAbitare has opened three residential centers with a total of 107 housing units, of which over 50% of which are dedicated to social housing. These residential centers are enriched with public services, common areas (such as laundries, social areas, art galleries, libraries, recreational rooms, etc.), and community events to foster a new model of social living based on positive interpersonal relationships.
Drawing on years of experience, CoAbitare has developed increasingly innovative social housing projects, focusing on property redevelopment and transforming spaces that not only provide housing but also foster a new model of inclusive living based on positive social interactions.
Rigenera’s support is directed toward implementing the project “Housing diffuso+”, a pilot program based on the belief that the temporary housing model developed at the three CoAbitare facilities can be extended to a network of apartments across the city. These temporary residences will serve as hubs where beneficiaries can access services, participate in skill-building programs, and engage in social and cultural activities. While maintaining a strong social focus, this project also aims to meet the housing needs of a broader audience, including traveling professionals, students, and trainees looking for medium- to long-term housing solutions.
