The cooperative ArticoloUno was established in February 2015 on the one hand with the aim of managing the Locanda degli Acrobati Hostel and revitalizing the Libreria Rinascita, a historic sign and landmark in the city’s cultural tradition, and on the other hand to promote the employment of disadvantaged people in restaurant-related fields of work. After the first year, the field of activity was expanded to two other areas: civil and industrial cleaning and surveillance of civic halls. With the pandemic the cooperative also experienced an increase in demands for work in the cleaning sector. Currently, employees in the cleaning sector account for almost half of the workforce of the entire cooperative, and it has become a strategic sector for the employment of frail people but also of a strong female presence in the workforce.
ArticoloUno was born from the will and desire to systematize decades of experience in the Brescia area by Cooperativa La Rete and Cooperativa Colibrì. Subsequently, other entities such as the cooperatives Zeroventi, Abibook, Il Calabrone, La Vela and COGESS entered the share capital.
As today, ArticoloUno therefore manages the new Libreria Rinascita (founded in 1974), administers food services (Panta Rei canteen in via Buffalora and Bistrò Popolare restaurant, both in Brescia), provides support services to the Province of Brescia, and is also involved in surveillance and reception services for civic halls and civil cleaning, a sector that the Cooperative has decided to grow further. Thanks to the support of Restart Italia, it has been decided to invest by renting a warehouse, purchasing new equipment and a van and by starting training courses.
These four investments are considered necessary in order for the cooperative to make the commissions it has managed to contract more and more stable, but also to supplement the physical work with the most modern equipment; which, in addition to improving the qualitative impact of the work for the client, improves the health conditions of the workers.
