Need
Since the Arab Spring outbreak, 800,000 immigrants have arrived in Italy. Almost 10 years later, the debate focuses on the distinction between refugees and economic immigrants – forgetting that, globally, immigrants represent 3% of the world population while producing more than 9% of global GDP. 90% of the 800,000 immigrants are under 35 years old and were born in the digital era. 47% did not go to high school and 88% did not go to university. After 600 days of passive waiting in the reception centers, 82% of asylum seekers receive a negative answer. Only 1.8% of refugees with a status find employment for more than 6 months despite that in Italy 57% of job searches do not find the right candidate.
Solution
Mygrants is an app that, throughout a series of thematic repeatable and progressive quiz modules available in three different languages (Italian, English, French), provides immigrants with: 1) Information, aiming at raising awareness and engagement; 2) training, to unleash their talents; and 3) support to achieve self-sufficiency in the labor market as employee, self-employed or entrepreneur. Mygrants provides information, guidance, and legal assistance, and supports the job search process. The app provides training but also screens the skills and background of each person to identify further training needs to increase the opportunities to find a job. Mygrants provides a unique and innovative solution to measure each person’s performance, create benchmarks and evaluation of homogenous clusters. The digital and analytical tool for data collection gives indications on each persons learning profile during the entire duration of the training course.
Impact
Mygrants analyzes the data collected to facilitate the matching between skills and profiles required by the job market. In particular, the system enables to profile attitudes, previous competences, background, and interests, to track progress and capacity to implement the acquired knowledge. The database contains more than 60,000 constantly updated and validated profiles, Companies can choose in real time or to track weekly performances to schedule the hiring of the right candidate. Since its launch in April 2017, Mygrants has been used by more than 60,000 trainees, from 16 Italian regions, spending an average of 236 minutes a day on the platform. 5,200 high skilled profiles have been identified of which 1,230 have found a job. The app is also used in Africa by more than 12,000 trainees in 3 countries (Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria).
