Afripads becomes the first sanitary pad company to earn UNBS Q mark certification in Uganda
As of May 2018 Afripads was the first and only sanitary pads company to receive the UNBS Q mark certification by Uganda National Bureau of Standards. UNBS operates a Product Quality Certification Scheme, as one of the services to the manufacturing sector. Under this scheme, UNBS certifies the quality of a product and grants the manufacturer a permit to affix the UNBS Quality Mark either on the product itself or on the packaging. This mark gives an assurance to the customer that the product conforms to Uganda Standards and is of good quality. This stunning achievement was announced by Sofia and Paul Grinvalds, Afripads founders, during the shareholders Annual meeting, held in Utrecht on 27th of June.
In 2017 Afripads recorded an impressive growth and generated strong impact in terms of quality jobs (150) and dignity for women (2,3 million women and girls reached). A groundbreaking study on menstruation and girls’ school attendance, conducted by School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, showed the positive correlation between use of sanitary pads and school attendance (+17%).
