The European Social Enterprise Law Association originated from the joint efforts of different European law firms working on a study, funded by the European Commission, to map the shape and nature of social enterprise activity in 29 European countries as part of the “Social Business Initiative” (https://esela.eu/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/legal_mapping_publication_051015_web.pdf) and from then on, it rapidly consolidated its role and positioning in the European context, reaching 18 Members and aiming to cover all European jurisdictions very soon.
ESELA’s global vision on legal trends for social impact/business tries to reflect and express a European hybrid approach to the topic (involving legal practitioners but also SEs, impact investors, public/financial institutions, intergovernmental bodies, scholars, researchers and stakeholders) taking into consideration approaches and peculiarities of other regional associations/groups (ESELA, IILWG, Sistema B) working in this field, which are focused, due to their respective cultural, economic and social contexts, on different aspects of the same area of topics.
